When you choose a hearing aid, there is a question that will be asked of you that has nothing to do with your actual hearing loss. That question is: “What color hearing aid do you want?”
And at Advanced Affordable Hearing, when we ask that question, customers often ask us right back: “What color hearing aid should I get?”
The answer really depends on your personal needs. When considering what color hearing aid to choose, ask yourself the following questions:
1) Do you want your hearing aid to blend in and be as invisible as possible?
If your answer is yes, you can try to choose a color that will match your skin tone or hair color.
Many of our customers choose either a standard beige, taupe, or gray (the colors most of our hearing aids are available in) in the hopes that it will blend in with their skin tone or hair color.
If you’re going to try and hide the device, we generally recommend trying to match the color of the device with the color of your hair over your skin tone. That often works better for our customers who want a more discreet look since it’s easier, in most cases, to blend a hearing device into your hair than it is to hide a device directly against your skin.
2) Do you want to turn your device into a fashion piece?
If you prefer to show off your hearing aid, you can find hearing aids that come in a variety of fashion colors, like purple, pink, etc.
On the other hand, those who want a sleek look may choose colors like silver or black, colors which are often viewed as seeming more professional or high-tech.
Since a variety of other technical devices, like Bluetooth earbuds, are available in black and silver, users have mentioned that they feel black or silver hearing aids may pass for one of those technical devices instead of being viewed as a hearing aid, which is ideal for some. They don’t have to try to hide the hearing device, but they also don’t have to feel self-conscious about wearing it.
When choosing the right hearing aid color for you, consider how you want your hearing aid to be viewed by others: as a fashion piece, as a run-of-the-mill tech device, or... just as a hearing aid!
3) Do you need to take any health issues into account?
Keep in mind that some customers prefer to choose a bright color for their hearing aids for reasons other than wear. Users with vision problems or dexterity issues will sometimes choose a device that’s very bright in color so that it’s easier to find the hearing aid if it’s dropped or misplaced.
Whatever color you choose, it’s important that you are happy with it.
In the end, the color of your hearing aids will not affect their performance, but the color can make you feel more comfortable about wearing them and, in that way, the color choice can impact how well the devices work for you.
If you avoid wearing your hearing aids because you don't find the color flattering or because you’re embarrassed that they don’t blend in as well as you’d like them to, you won’t enjoy the full benefits they can provide.
When you’re considering hearing aid styles and colors, take both your wants and your needs into account before making a decision, and don’t be afraid to ask questions when buying.
At Advanced Affordable Hearing, we are always happy to answer questions and suggest a hearing aid color based on your lifestyle and needs.
